Over the following 2 weeks Maxim Vengerov will be acting as Chairman of the Jury at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition, in Poznan Poland.
The competition was officially opened on the 8th October with a concert featuring the first prize winner of the 14th International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition (2011) and will finish on the 23rd October with a Prize Giving Ceremony Gala Concert.

Sunday night saw Maxim Vengerov perform in a special farewell concert dedicated to the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, alongside the UN Orchestra. The concert took place at Victoria Hall Geneva, “in the presence of former Secretary General Kofi Annan, Swiss political dignitaries from the federal, cantonal and city levels, as well as from the Fondation pour Genève“.1
Maestro Antoine Marguier – the conductor for the evening’s concert, led the orchestra in an all-Tchaikovsky programme, which included “a masterful interpretation of the violin concerto by Maxim Vengerov”.2

We are delight to announce that as of September 2016 Maxim Vengerov will join the Royal College of Music as Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin. Maxim will visit the RCM at least three times a year, working with students through regular masterclasses and individual tuition.
Maxim said: ‘I am thrilled to be joining the Royal College of Music as Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin and very much look forward to working with the RCM’s talented students. Encouraging new generations of musicians is one my greatest passions and I am very pleased to be able to help shape the future careers of violinists at one of the world’s leading music conservatoires.’
Professor Colin Lawson CBE, Director of the RCM, said: ‘The College is very fortunate to have a close relationship with The Polonsky Foundation, which already provides ongoing philanthropic support to the RCM and its students, helping to ensure that financial means are never a barrier to the world class music education we provide. Maxim Vengerov’s first visit to the RCM as Polonsky Visiting Professor of Violin will be for a public masterclass on 23 September 2016 at 6pm.

Backstage at the Usher Hall after a sold out Edinburgh Intl Festival recital, Maxim Vengerov met (for the 2nd time) the Wilfred Owen violin – a commemorative violin crafted to mark the centenary of WW1. Maxim took time to handle the violin, which was created from a sycamore tree in the grounds of the Craiglockhart War Hospital where famous war poet Wilfred Owen was a patient in 1917. Maxim endorsed the violin as “an envoy for peace and reconciliation through the power of music”.
